Wash and oil the Indra Mala with almond oil once a month using a soft brush and chant ‘Om Namah Shivaye’ before wearing it the next day.
Remove it before engaging in sexual intercourse and visiting funerals.
You can remove it while eating non-vegetarian food or drinking alcohol and wear it again later.
Women can wear it all the time, even during menstrual cycles.
To energise it, touch it to a shivling and chant ‘Om Namah Shivaye’ 11 times. Perform a Rudrabhishek of it when possible.
Do not wear or use a Rudraksha Mala worn by others. Keep a separate Mala for Japa and for wearing.
